There is no shortage of tour guides in Cairo but from personal experience if you want one of the very best we can personally recommend a young man named Youssef Hossam. He knows his Egyptology, speaks perfect English and is most accommodating and entertaining. He will put together any tour you want, not just the usual Great Pyramids/Sphinx, Memphis, Sakkara, the old and new Grand Egyptian Museums but anything you want. As somebody interested in James Bond he took me to the various filming locations used in The Spy Who Loved Me and afterwards we ended up in bars and restaurants only frequented by locals. Even better he knows perhaps the best driver in Cairo who will act as your personal chauffeur on call 24 hours a day should you wish - he was willing to meet me at Sphinx airport at 2am for a transfer to my hotel and was back again at 9am for a tour which went on until nearly midnight.
